The Stolen Child

Inspired by Yeats's poem “The Stolen Child” through the mystifying of missing children in Irish history, I began to examine futher connections that could be made between the sweeping  historical disappearances of rural Irish children. I examined two cases in particular, one of that Mary Boyle, who’s investigator I had previously met. I also examined the Philip Cairns case as the unusual disappearance happened within my community as is the second oldest missing children’s case in Ireland.

This mobile serves as a sharp mystified warning for children to that of strangers while reminding adults the context of the world in which they live in, The mobile’s illustrations feature symbols of the two missing children’s cases, eluding to their forever youth. The children’s clothing is of their ages, respectfully six and thirteen. The poem is screen-printed onto the clothing, forever embedding itself into the textile with it’s warped poetic text alluring the viewer to the wild faeries.
